Damaged macOS: checked before recommending a replacement.
Two iMac M3 units with the same outward symptom can stop at completely different stages. Stopping at the logo confirms the machine starts part of the boot process. The point at which it halts helps distinguish between storage, macOS, firmware and hardware.
The iMac M3 retains the 24‑inch format and a high level of integration. Because the display is bonded, it’s advisable to complete external and electrical checks first.
Do not reformat if important data is present.
Stop testing if you notice smell, localised heat, liquid or intermittent connections. Continuing may worsen a localised fault.
These are the areas that should be examined in this case:
Damaged macOS: checked before recommending a replacement.
Storage: checked before recommending a replacement.
Peripheral: checked before recommending a replacement.
Firmware: checked before recommending a replacement.
Unstable power: checked before recommending a replacement.
The cause is confirmed through measurement and actual behaviour, not by similarity to another Mac.
Recovery is attempted, storage is inspected, and we check whether the fault also appears with an external system or diagnostic.
We also check for secondary damage. A faulty input can affect the charging circuit; liquid can reach multiple connectors; and a power failure can cause filesystem damage.
The more precise your description, the fewer unnecessary tests will be required:
Progress bar stopped.
Always restarts to the same point.
Enters Recovery.
Extremely slow boot.
On certain Macs with Apple Silicon, a firmware reactivation via another Mac may be attempted. Reactivation is intended to preserve data; restoration reinstalls firmware and erases content. They should not be used as automatic tests without knowing the user’s priorities.
On Apple Silicon, storage is integrated and encrypted. Replacing the logic board does not automatically transfer documents, photos or projects. When no backup exists, the strategy must prioritise the original board and avoid actions that erase content.
Before restoring firmware, reinstalling or accepting a replacement, consult the Mac data recovery service.
Error reports, Recovery mode and tests without peripherals help separate software from electronics. If the hardware is stable, a clean installation of macOS can be considered after protecting data.
Services based solely on complete modules can produce very high estimates. Electronic repair allows us to determine whether the affected circuit can be recovered without changing the whole logic board.
Tell us about the fault via contact and specify that it is an iMac M3.
No. If the storage or the board fail, reinstallation can stall or put data at risk.
We can give a preliminary indication, but the final price depends on the cause, secondary damage and required components.
Yes. Contact us before shipping to explain the fault, state whether important data is present and receive packing instructions.
