Firmware or board traces: checked before recommending a replacement.
Before writing off a MacBook Pro M2 logic board, power, firmware and peripherals should be checked in a logical order. In an M2 Mac that won’t power up it is useful to consider the power input and Apple Silicon boot process separately. The presence of MagSafe on some models adds a helpful test.
The MacBook Pro M2 line includes the 13-inch model and the professional 14- and 16-inch machines. For an accurate quote we must confirm screen size, year and exact chip.
These are the areas that should be examined in this case:
Firmware or board traces: checked before recommending a replacement.
Adapter or cable: checked before recommending a replacement.
MagSafe or USB-C port: checked before recommending a replacement.
Locked battery: checked before recommending a replacement.
Charge controllers: checked before recommending a replacement.
The cause is confirmed by measurement and actual device behaviour, not by similarity with another Mac.
The more precise the description, the fewer unnecessary tests will be required:
The machine powered off during an update.
MagSafe does not light or changes colour.
USB-C also fails to start charging.
The battery was depleted prior to the failure.
Use compatible accessories and try both charging methods when the model offers them.
Stop testing if you detect smell, localised heat, liquid or intermittent connections. Continuing may enlarge a localised fault.
We compare charging via MagSafe and USB-C, check the battery condition and measure the boot sequence. If power is correct, DFU is checked before any physical intervention.
We also check for secondary damage. A faulty inlet can affect the charging circuit; liquid can reach several connectors; and a power interruption can leave file system damage.
On certain Apple Silicon Macs it may be possible to attempt a firmware reactivation using another Mac. Reactivation is intended to preserve data; restoration reinstalls firmware and erases content. They should not be used automatically without knowing the user’s priority.
On Apple Silicon the storage is integrated and encrypted. Replacing the logic board does not automatically transfer documents, photographs or projects. When no backup exists, the strategy must prioritise the original board and avoid actions that would erase content.
Before restoring firmware, reinstalling or accepting a board replacement, consult the Mac data recovery service.
The same symptom can result in a repair of the port, battery, display, firmware or logic board. A responsible quote should reflect the actual component and not a generic replacement.
At Daniel Gontán we carry out MacBook Pro repair with prior diagnosis and service for devices sent from Spain.
Yes. That comparison helps determine whether the problem is with a specific port or with the general charging system.
You can get an initial indication, but the final price depends on the cause, any secondary damage and the components required.
Yes. Contact us before shipping to explain the fault, indicate whether important data exists and receive packing instructions.
