USB‑C charges, or vice versa.
When a MacBook Air M2 presents this problem, replacing parts by trial and error usually increases the repair cost. Modern MacBook Air models can charge via MagSafe and USB‑C. When neither route works, the fault is usually beyond the input stages; if only one fails, the diagnosis can be narrowed.
The MacBook Air M2 adopted a different chassis and reintroduced MagSafe while retaining USB‑C ports. Charging can enter via more than one route, which allows comparison of behaviours during diagnosis.
Try a known-good charger and see if it fails on all input ports.
Stop testing if you detect smell, localised heat, liquid ingress or intermittent connections. Continuing to test may exacerbate a localised fault.
The more precise the description, the fewer unnecessary tests will be required:
USB‑C charges, or vice versa.
Charging stops when the cable is moved.
The battery remains at the same percentage.
MagSafe LED does not illuminate.
Both charging paths, the negotiated power and the battery’s response are compared. Differential behaviour prevents indiscriminate component replacement.
Secondary damage is also checked for. A defective input can affect the charging circuit; liquid can reach several connectors; and a power event can leave damage in the file system.
These are the areas that should be examined in this case:
USB‑C port: checked before recommending replacement.
Battery: checked before recommending replacement.
Controllers and logic board: checked before recommending replacement.
Adapter or cable: checked before recommending replacement.
MagSafe connector: checked before recommending replacement.
The cause is confirmed by measurement and observed behaviour, not by similarity with another Mac.
A logic board consists of repairable circuits. When the damage is localised and replacement components exist, microsoldering can be an alternative to changing the whole assembly.

They share part of the charging system, but the inputs and their negotiation allow different faults to be localised.
We can give an estimate, but the final cost depends on the cause, any secondary damage and the components required.
Yes. Contact us before shipping to explain the fault, note any important data and receive packaging instructions.
Tell us the model, the symptoms and whether any important data is present. We will review the case before replacing complete components.
